MARCO LODOLA at the Uffizi

Marco Lodola donates the first light sculpture, his self-portrait, to enter the collection of the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.

At Christmas 2020, Marco Lodola's solo exhibition entitled 'Nativity. Presepe Luminoso' coloured the rooms of the Uffizi Gallery. In the exhibition, some luminous works from the Mirabili collection, a luminous, pop, revisited nativity scene was recreated, where the characters were all from the world of Italian and international pop music. Lodola explains that he conceived the installation from a reflection on "the condition of suffering that we live in today". This, he says, "was the inspiration from which I started to represent a luminous rebirth, a sense of hope, faith in a change."

During the presentation of the catalogue 'Stars of the People' published by the Uffizi Galleries and Mirabili with photos and stories from the exhibition last Christmas, in a super pop ceremony, the work representing the self-portrait of the artist himself, Marco Lodola, was donated to the Uffizi Galleries. "It is a strange feeling to be next to the greats of the past. Florence then is a city that I love very much. I studied here, at the Academy of Fine Arts, even though I didn't attend it that much because in the mornings, when I was playing hooky, I would come here to the Uffizi to learn. Seeing the works on display is the best lesson'.

The guest of honour at the event, hosted by Uffizi Director Eike Schmidt and also attended by art critic Vittorio Sgarbi and former RAI manager Nicola Sinisi, could only be Gigliola Cinquetti (the artist who represented the Madonna in the Luminous Nativity in the exhibition 'Nativity. Presepe Luminoso') who, together with the singers Morgan and Andy, enriched the evening with a performance of some songs from the history of Italian music.
